The Bankrobber is an Italian rock band, formed in 2008 in Riva del Garda, a Province of Trento. The band consists of the Oberti siblings (Giacomo and Maddalena, respectively lead vocalist and guitarist, and keyboardist and vocalist of the band), Andrea Villani (bass and backing vocals) and Stefano Beretta (drummer and backing vocals).
The initial version of The Bankrobber only had one element of the Oberti family, more specifically Giacomo. Nevertheless, after some changes in the formation of the band, Giacomo decided to invite Maddalena, his sister, to enter this real adventure. With Maddalena came not only a female voice, but also the great power of keyboards. The sonority of the quartet was preparing to change, evolving to its current version.
But let's go back for a moment. Who belongs to this universe since the first day is Andrea, childhood friend of Giacomo. They have known each other since adolescence and it was the overwhelming passion they shared for music that led them to form a band. Wrapped in dreams and ambitions, they began to create their own songs and lyrics, taking a step as desired as feared. A few months after forming the band, they won the National Prize "Rock Targato Italia" (2009). Fate had taken care to prove that this was the right way to go.
As for Stefano, his entrance into the project is a combination of luck and bad luck. Bad luck because his entrance in the band only happens due to the unfortunate exit of the previous drummer. Lucky because it was discovered, by mere chance, by the manager of The Bankrobber.
The curious name that the quartet wears with pride comes from ... a song. The most insightful may have suspected but not all will make the connection between an Italian rock band and ... a Clash song. They claim to be influenced by the new British wave and post-punk revival of the new millennium, creating a unique sound in the Italian music scene.
Between 2013 and 2017, they performed in the most important Italian clubs and festivals, sharing the stage with names as important as Dropkick Murphis, Enrico Ruggeri and A-Toys Orchestra, among many others.
Their discography is marked by four EP’s and an album: "Rob the Bank" (2010), "Indifferent" (2011), "Rob the Wave" (2013), "Gazza Ladra" (2014) and “The Land of Tales" (2016). Note also for the singles "Señorita" feat. Enrico Ruggeri - "Le Canzoni ai testimoni" (2012), a cover of "Always On My Mind" by Elvis Presley (2015) and "Good Road to Follow" (2015).
Nowadays, they have not only been awarded the Best Italian Band by MTV Italy, they are working on their next album, "Missing", with the release scheduled for October. The presentation to the Portuguese public takes place to the sound of "Closer", the first single extracted from the much desired new work of originals.
